K&L Gates keeps this list of state’s e-discovery rules constantly updated. I love one-stop clicking and appreciate the reminder to look for your judge’s local rules, forms, and guidelines. -CCE

More and more states are adopting statutes and court rules addressing the discovery of electronically stored information. Here is a current list with links to the relevant provisions. Please note also that many judges have created their own forms or have crafted their own preferred protocols for e-discovery. These are generally available on the website of the individual judge and care should be taken to ensure you are aware of any such forms or guidelines in any court you may appear in. . . .

Filing Your Appeal – For New and Infrequent Attorney Filers, The United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit

Introduction

If this is your first time in this court, welcome. If it has been a while since you filed a brief with us, welcome back. Practicing in a federal appeals court is different from practicing in a trial court, state or federal, and there are even notable differences from state appellate work. With this in mind, there are a number of resources available to assist you.

As an initial matter, if you intend to practice in this court, you can count on referring frequently to the Federal Rules of Appellate Procedure, and especially our local Tenth Circuit Rules. Our Practitioner’s Guide is also a good source of information.

If you can’t find the answer to a question in the rules or if you have a special concern about an appeal, do not hesitate to call the clerk’s office at 303-844-3157. We have real people answering the phone and a well-trained staff who can assist you.

The following sections provide general information you may find useful. However, this information is no substitute for a careful review of the federal and our local rules. . . .

Local Rules, Forms and Guidelines of United States District Courts Addressing E-Discovery Issues

Many United States District Courts now require compliance with special local rules, forms, or guidelines addressing the discovery of electronically stored information. Below is a collection of those local rules, forms and guidelines, with links to the relevant materials. Please note also that many individual judges and magistrate judges have created their own forms or have crafted their own preferred protocols for e-discovery. Notice of New, Automated Civil Cover Sheet (JS-44), from Newsletter, U.S. District Court, District of Arizona

Effective Monday, March 3, 2014, it will be mandatory for registered users of ECF to complete the new, automated Civil Cover Sheet (JS-44) when opening a civil case.

This automated form allows for the entry of multiple party and attorney names, provides drop-down lists for many categories and radio buttons to select the appropriate Nature of Suit. The final version includes only the selected information, resulting in a clean, easy to read document.
